Stubborn as a Horse

Count yourself lucky, how happy you must be— you get a fresh start, your slate’s wiped clean!

Count yourself lucky— God holds nothing against you and you’re holding nothing back from him.


When I kept it all inside, my bones turned to powder, my words became day long groans.

The pressure never let up; all the juices of my life dried up.


Then I let it all out; I said, “I’ll make a clean breast of my failures to God.”

Suddenly the pressure was gone— my guilt dissolved, my sin disappeared.


These things add up. Every one of us needs to pray;
when all hell breaks loose and the dam bursts we’ll be on high ground, untouched.


God’s my island hideaway, keeps danger far from the shore, throws garlands of hosannas around my neck.

Let me give you some good advice; I’m looking you in the eye and giving it to you straight:


“Don’t be ornery like a horse or mule that needs bit and bridle to stay on track.”

God-defiers are always in trouble; God-affirmers find themselves loved
every time they turn around.

Celebrate God. Sing together—everyone!

I have to ask this question.. are you stubborn? What does it take for God to get your attention? What is it weighing heavy on your conscience tonight?

You know what it is that the Holy Spirit keeps bringing up in your mind over and over again. I've been there way too many times and even now, things I thought I'd given up.. the Lord has to bring up again on occasion.

I like to keep short accounts though. No need to live under conviction for weeks at a time or even longer.

How much we try not to listen when we want to keep doing something we shouldn't.

There is nothing more stubborn than a horse who wants to eat fresh green grass, when he's supposed to be obeying his master...

unless it be one of us trying to go back to our old sins when the Lord has work for us to do or wants us to go forward with Him.

The Lord doesn't want us to be forever stubborn and willful.

Stubborn horses head straight for the barn if you take off their lead rope. They like to be lazy and eat what they want.. when the want it. They don't like doing what they are told.. and are way to strong to force.. unless you have a bridle and bit.

There is nothing more sensitive than a horse's mouth, so the bridle and bit can control these massive powerful creatures quite easily. Still they must be broken.. and then trained. Their will never does go away either. If you don't continually force them, and constantly show them you are 'boss', they will take off in a heart beat to do as they please. For them, freedom = uselessness.

Is that you? It certainly has been me. But God wants us to experience freedom and fruitfulness.

Animals can never really be free if we are going to get any kind of work out of them. They just eat, fight, sleep.. but accomplish very little outside their instincts and impulses.

The Lord challenges us here to respond.. to seek Him.. to confess our sins freely.. and not wait till the heavy burden of our sins bury us to the point of sleepless nights and depression. Why wait?

The Lord wants you now. If you feel that heavy burden of depression over things your conscience is bugging you about, there is only one way to get rid of it.

Confess your sins to the Lord. Come to Him and tell him you know what you are doing is wrong. Tell Him you are sorry. It's the only way to stop feeling bad all the time. And he promises to instruct you and teach you in the way you should go.. and counsel you and watch over you.
Just don't be stubborn.

Give in to God and say no to the flesh by His grace and you will find real happiness and peace. He has so much for you to do, if you will come to him.. sin and all.

Dear Lord,

You know I have been under that heavy burden.. and I'm so glad I finally couldn't bear it any more and came to you. Please Lord, do the same for my readers.. and my friends. If they are feeling that 'prick' of the conscience that says something is wrong, help them today to come clean with you.. and confess all. Assure them that they are forgiven by the blood of your Son who died for all their sins.. however big or small or however many or few. Help them go on with you. In Your dear Name we pray,
