مَثَلُ ملكُوتِ السَموات كمَثَلِ عَشْرِ عذارى أَخَذْنَ مصابيحَهُنَّ وخرجْنَ للقاءِ العريس . خمْسٌ مِنْهُنَّ عاقِلات , وخمْسٌ جاهِلات . فالجاهِلاتُ أَخَذْنَ مصابيحَهُنَّ ولم يأْخُذْنَ معَهُنَّ زيتاً . أَمَّا العاقِلاتُ فأْخَذْنَ معَ مصابيحِهنَّ زيتاً في آنيَتِهِنَّ . وأَبطأَ العريسُ فنَعَسْنَ جميعاً ونِمْنَ . وعِندَ نِصفِ الليل علا الصياحُ : " هُوَذا العريسُ قد أَقبَلَ . فاخرُجْنَ لِلِقائِه ." فقامت... أُولئِك العذارى جميعاً وهيَّأْنَ مصابِيحَهُنَّ . فقالتِ الجاهِلاتُ للعاقِلاتِ : " أَعطِيننا مِنْ زيتِكُنَّ , فإنَّ مصابيحَنا تَنطَفئُ ." فأَجابتْ العاقِلاتُ : " لعلَّهُ غيرُ كافٍ لنا ولكُنَّ . فالأَولى أَن تذهبْنَ إلى الباعَةِ وتشترينَ لكُنَّ ." وبينما هُنَّ ذاهباتٌ ليشتَرينَ، وصَلَ العريسُ , فدخَلَتْ مَعَهُ المُستعِدَّاتُ إلى رَدْهَةِ العُرسِ, وأُغلِقَ البابُ . وجاءَتْ آخِرَ الأَمرِ سائِرُ العذارى فقُلنَ: " يا ربّ يا ربّ اِفتَحْ لنا." فأَجابَ :" الحقَّ أَقولُ لكُنَّ إِنِّي لا أَعرفُكُنَّ." فاسهروا إذاً لأَنَّكُمْ لا تعلمونَ اليومَ ولا الساعة." (متى 25/1-12 ).

Like the Kingdom of heaven is like ten virgins, who took their lamps and went forth to meet the bridegroom. Five of them were wise, and five rationals.
