Muslim Brotherhood can qualify for asylum in UK
Muslim Brotherhood can qualify for asylum in UK

Members of the Islamist organisation Muslim Brotherhood, which has been outlawed in Egypt, can qualify for political asylum in the United Kingdom. A report issued by the UK’s Home Office says they “may be able to show that they are at risk of persecution”.
The 22-page document, titled “Country Information and Guidance Egypt: Muslim Brotherhood,” explicitly states that asylum can be applied for over “a fear of persecution or serious harm by the state because of the person’s actual or perceived involvement with the Muslim Brotherhood”.
As reported by Ahram Online, however, low-key, inactive members who are not “generally targeted” and would be unable to show “a real risk or persecution” may not be granted asylum, concluding that each case will be reviewed on an individual basis.
As reported by the Sunday Express online, Muslim Brotherhood advocates global jihad and preaches using the Koran as the sole basis for government. It is considered a terrorist organisation across the Arab world and was critical to the foundation of Al-Qaeda.
It briefly held power in Egypt in the chaos after the overthrow of President Hosni Mubarak, buy after leader Mohammad Morsi was overthrown. Since the Egyptian military seized power, hundreds of Muslim Brotherhood members have faced the death penalty in a move Amnesty International condemned as “politically motivated”.News Europe
