Pope Shenouda III
The sin in which the first man fell and in which every man falls is a sin against God because it is disobedience to God, and lack of love and respect towards Him. But rather it is rebellion against His kingdom and resistance to the work of His grace and His Holy Spirit, as well as being a lack of faith. That is why David the Prophet says in his Psalm: "Against You, You only, have I sinned, and done this evil in Your sight" (Ps. 51:4). That is why the righteous Joseph withheld from sinning, saying: "How then can I do this great wickedness, and sin against God?" (Gen. 39:9)
