8th Sunday of Matthew (The Feeding of the Five Thousand)
Blessed is he that feels that the Lord has had compassion on him We will refer to the Gospel passage that we heard: The Lord saw the crowd and had compassion on them, and in one part he healed the sick and in the other part he filled them all, their being five thousand—counting only the men. And he filled them with five loaves and two fish. The Lord had compassion on all of them, but who will feel it… Blessed is he who will feel that the Lord has had compassion on him, loved him, descended together with him, approached him, is close to him, and is concerned for him. And naturally as the Lord of all, He is able to arrange all things. There comes a time when each person sees in reality that there is nothing that the Lord is not concerned with. Each person experiences the feeling that the Lord takes care of everything. Certainly, the Lord’s ultimate purpose is for the soul to be cured, for the whole person to be cured, to make you what He is, since you will be united to Him and He to you. No one should ever lose this hope, this certainty that his hour will come when the Lord will embrace him and will place upon him His entire compassion. The Lord will bestow grace upon him, will heal him, will make him His own, will fill him with His divinity, make him holy, deify him, and save him. |
