What is the definition of sin?

Answer: Sin is described in the Bible as transgression of the law of God (1 John 3:4) and rebellion against God (Deuteronomy 9:7; Joshua 1:18). Sin had its beginning with Lucifer, probably the most beautiful and powerful of the angels. Not content with his position, he desired to be higher than God, and that was his downfall, the beginning of sin (Isaiah 14:12-15). Renamed Satan, he brought sin to the human race in the Garden of Eden, where he tempted Adam and Eve with the same enticement, “you shall be like God.” Genesis 3 describes Adam and Eve’s rebellion against God and against His command. Since that time, sin has been passed down through all the generations of mankind and we, Adam’s descendants, have inherited sin from him. Romans 5:12 tells us that through Adam sin entered the world, and so death was passed on to all men because “the wages of sin is death” (Romans 6:23).

Through Adam, the inherent inclination to sin entered the human race, and human beings became sinners by nature. When Adam sinned, his inner nature was transformed by his sin of rebellion, bringing to him spiritual death and depravity which would be passed on to all who came after him. We are sinners not because we sin; rather, we sin because we are sinners. This passed-on depravity is known as inherited sin. Just as we inherit physical characteristics from our parents, we inherit our sinful natures from Adam. King David lamented this condition of fallen human nature in Psalm 51:5: “Surely I was sinful at birth, sinful from the time my mother conceived me.”

Another type of sin is known as imputed sin. Used in both financial and legal settings, the Greek word translated “imputed” means “to take something that belongs to someone and credit it to another’s account.” Before the Law of Moses was given, sin was not imputed to man, although men were still sinners because of inherited sin. After the Law was given, sins committed in violation of the Law were imputed (accounted) to them (Romans 5:13). Even before transgressions of the law were imputed to men, the ultimate penalty for sin (death) continued to reign (Romans 5:14). All humans, from Adam to Moses, were subject to death, not because of their sinful acts against the Mosaic Law (which they did not have), but because of their own inherited sinful nature. After Moses, humans were subject to death both because of inherited sin from Adam and imputed sin from violating the laws of God.

God used the principle of imputation to benefit mankind when He imputed the sin of believers to the account of Jesus Christ, who paid the penalty for that sin—death—on the cross. Imputing our sin to Jesus, God treated Him as if He were a sinner, though He was not, and had Him die for the sins of the entire world (1 John 2:2). It is important to understand that sin was imputed to Him, but He did not inherit it from Adam. He bore the penalty for sin, but He never became a sinner. His pure and perfect nature was untouched by sin. He was treated as though He were guilty of all the sins ever committed by the human race, even though He committed none. In exchange, God imputed the righteousness of Christ to believers and credited our accounts with His righteousness, just as He had credited our sins to Christ’s account (2 Corinthians 5:21).
We are all three times condemned due to inherited sin, imputed sin, and personal sin. The only just penalty for this sin is death (Romans 6:23), not just physical death but eternal death (Revelation 20:11-15). Thankfully, inherited sin, imputed sin, and personal sin have all been crucified on the cross of Jesus, and now by faith in Jesus Christ as the Savior “we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of His grace” (Ephesians 1:7).

Does God exist?

Answer: The existence of God cannot be proved or disproved. The Bible says that we must accept by faith the fact that God exists: “And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to Him must believe that He exists and that He rewards those who earnestly seek Him” (Hebrews 11:6). If God so desired, He could simply appear and prove to the whole world that He exists. But if He did that, there would be no need for faith. “Then Jesus told him, ‘Because you have seen me, you have believed; blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed’” (John 20:29).






That does not mean, however, that there is no evidence of God’s existence. The Bible states, “The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of His hands. Day after day they pour forth speech; night after night they display knowledge. There is no speech or language where their voice is not heard. Their voice goes out into all the earth, their words to the ends of the world” (Psalm 19:1-4). Looking at the stars, understanding the vastness of the universe, observing the wonders of nature, seeing the beauty of a sunset—all of these things point to a Creator God. If these were not enough, there is also evidence of God in our own hearts. Ecclesiastes 3:11 tells us, “…He has also set eternity in the hearts of men.” Deep within us is the recognition that there is something beyond this life and someone beyond this world. We can deny this knowledge intellectually, but God’s presence in us and all around us is still obvious. Despite this, the Bible warns that some will still deny God’s existence: “The fool says in his heart, ‘There is no God’” (Psalm 14:1). Since the vast majority of people throughout history, in all cultures, in all civilizations, and on all continents believe in the existence of some kind of God, there must be something (or someone) causing this belief.

In addition to the biblical arguments for God’s existence, there are logical arguments. First, there is the ontological argument. The most popular form of the ontological argument uses the concept of God to prove God’s existence. It begins with the definition of God as “a being than which no greater can be conceived.” It is then argued that to exist is greater than to not exist, and therefore the greatest conceivable being must exist. If God did not exist, then God would not be the greatest conceivable being, and that would contradict the very definition of God.

A second argument is the teleological argument. The teleological argument states that since the universe displays such an amazing design, there must have been a divine Designer. For example, if the Earth were significantly closer or farther away from the sun, it would not be capable of supporting much of the life it currently does. If the elements in our atmosphere were even a few percentage points different, nearly every living thing on earth would die. The odds of a single protein molecule forming by chance is 1 in 10243 (that is a 1 followed by 243 zeros). A singlecell is comprised of millions of protein molecules.

A third logical argument for God’s existence is called the cosmological argument. Every effect must have a cause. This universe and everything in it is an effect. There must be something that caused everything to come into existence. Ultimately, there must be something “un-caused” in order to cause everything else to come into existence. That “un-caused” cause is God.

A fourth argument is known as the moral argument. Every culture throughout history has had some form of law. Everyone has a sense of right and wrong. Murder, lying, stealing, and immorality are almost universally rejected. Where did this sense of right and wrong come from if not from a holy God?

Despite all of this, the Bible tells us that people will reject the clear and undeniable knowledge of God and believe a lie instead. Romans 1:25 declares, “They exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and worshiped and served created things rather than the Creator—who is forever praised. Amen.” The Bible also proclaims that people are without excuse for not believing in God: “For since the creation of the world God's invisible qualities—His eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that men are without excuse” (Romans 1:20).

People claim to reject God’s existence because it is “not scientific” or “because there is no proof.” The true reason is that once they admit that there is a God, they also must realize that they are responsible to God and in need of forgiveness from Him (Romans 3:23, 6:23). If God exists, then we are accountable to Him for our actions. If God does not exist, then we can do whatever we want without having to worry about God judging us. That is why many of those who deny the existence of God cling strongly to the theory of naturalistic evolution—it gives them an alternative to believing in a Creator God. God exists and ultimately everyone knows that He exists. The very fact that some attempt so aggressively to disprove His existence is in fact an argument for His existence.

How do we know God exists? As Christians, we know God exists because we speak to Him every day. We do not audibly hear Him speaking to us, but we sense His presence, we feel His leading, we know His love, we desire His grace. Things have occurred in our lives that have no possible explanation other than God. God has so miraculously saved us and changed our lives that we cannot help but acknowledge and praise His existence. None of these arguments can persuade anyone who refuses to acknowledge what is already obvious. In the end, God’s existence must be accepted by faith (Hebrews 11:6). Faith in God is not a blind leap into the dark; it is safe step into a well-lit room where the vast majority of people are already standing.

"... الَّذِي حَسَبَ رَحْمَتِهِ الْكَثِيرَةِ وَلَدَنَا ثَانِيَةً لِرَجَاءٍ حَيٍّ، بِقِيَامَةِ يَسُوعَ الْمَسِيحِ مِنَ الأَمْوَاتِ" (بطرس الأولى 3:1).

بالإيمان، يجب أن يتغير فكرنا عن المسيح – من هو، ماذا فعل، ولماذا – لكي ننال الخلاص (أَعمال الرسل3: 19). وإذا وضعنا إيماننا فيه، واثقين أن موته على الصليب يدفع ثمن خطايانا، سننال الغفران ويكون لنا موعد الحياة الأبدية في السماء. "لأَنَّكَ إِنِ اعْتَرَفْتَ بِفَمِكَ بِالرَّبِّ يَسُوعَ وَآمَنْتَ بِقَلْبِكَ أَنَّ اللهَ أَقَامَهُ مِنَ الأَمْوَاتِ خَلَصْتَ" (رومية 10: 9). الإيمان فقط في عمل المسيح الكامل على الصليب هو السبيل الوحيد للحياة الأبدية! "لأَنَّكُمْ بِالنِّعْمَةِ مُخَلَّصُونَ، بِالإِيمَانِ، وَذَلِكَ لَيْسَ مِنْكُمْ. هُوَ عَطِيَّةُ اللهِ. لَيْسَ مِنْ أَعْمَالٍ كَيْلاَ يَفْتَخِرَ أَحَدٌ" (أفسس 2: 8-9).

Do you have eternal life

Answer: The Bible presents a clear path to eternal life. First, we must recognize that we have sinned against God: "For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God" (Romans 3:23). We have all done things that are displeasing to God, which makes us deserving of punishment. Since all our sins are ultimately against an eternal God, only an eternal punishment is sufficient. "The wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 6:23).

However, Jesus Christ, the sinless (1 Peter 2:22), eternal Son of God became a man (John 1:1,14) and died to pay our penalty. "God demonstrates His love for us in this: while we were still sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8). Jesus Christ died on the cross (John 19:31-42), taking the punishment that we deserve (2 Corinthians 5:21). Three days later He rose from the dead (1 Corinthians 15:1-4), proving His victory over sin and death. "In His great mercy He has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead" (1 Peter 1:3).

By faith, we must change our mindset regarding Christ - who He is, what He did, and why - for salvation (Acts 3:19). If we place our faith in Him, trusting His death on the cross to pay for our sins, we will be forgiven and receive the promise of eternal life in heaven. "For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son so that anyone who believes in Him will not perish but have eternal life" (John 3:16). "If you confess with your mouth, 'Jesus is Lord,' and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved" (Romans 10:9). Faith alone in the finished work of Christ on the cross is the only true path to eternal life! "For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith - and this not of yourselves, it is the gift of God - not by works, so that no one can boast" (Ephesians 2:8-9).

It is only trusting in Christ that can save you from sin. This prayer is simply a way to express to God your faith in Him and thank Him for providing for your salvation. "God, I know that I have sinned against you and deserve punishment. But Jesus Christ took the punishment that I deserve so that through faith in Him I could be forgiven. I place my trust in You for salvation. Thank You for Your wonderful grace and forgiveness - the gift of eternal life! Amen!"

How do I receive forgiveness from God?

Answer: Acts 13:38 declares, "Therefore, my brothers, I want you to know that through Jesus the forgiveness of sins is proclaimed to you."




What is forgiveness and why do I need it?

The word "forgive" means to wipe the slate clean, to pardon, to cancel a debt. When we wrong someone, we seek their forgiveness in order for the relationship to be restored. Forgiveness is not granted because a person deserves to be forgiven. No one deserves to be forgiven. Forgiveness is an act of love, mercy, and grace. Forgiveness is a decision to not hold something against another person, despite what they have done to you.

The Bible tells us that we are all in need of forgiveness from God. We have all committed sin. Ecclesiastes 7:20 proclaims, "There is not a righteous man on earth who does what is right and never sins." First John 1:8 says, "If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us." All sin is ultimately an act of rebellion against God (Psalm 51:4). As a result, we desperately need God’s forgiveness. If our sins are not forgiven, we will spend eternity suffering the consequences of our sins (Matthew 25:46; John 3:36).

Forgiveness – How do I get it?

Thankfully, God is loving and merciful – eager to forgive us of our sins! 2 Peter 3:9 tells us, "…He is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance." God desires to forgive us, so He provided for our forgiveness.

The only just penalty for our sins is death. The first half of Romans 6:23 declares, "For the wages of sin is death…" Eternal death is what we have earned for our sins. God, in His perfect plan, became a human being – Jesus Christ (John 1:1,14). Jesus died on the cross, taking the penalty that we deserve – death. Second Corinthians 5:21 teaches us, "God made Him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in Him we might become the righteousness of God." Jesus died on the cross, taking the punishment that we deserve! As God, Jesus' death provided forgiveness for the sins of the entire world. 1 John 2:2 proclaims, "He is the atoning sacrifice for our sins, and not only for ours but also for the sins of the whole world." Jesus rose from the dead, proclaiming His victory over sin and death (1 Corinthians 15:1-28). Praise God, through the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, the second half of Romans 6:23 is true, "…but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord."

Do you want to have your sins forgiven? Do you have a nagging feeling of guilt that you can’t seem to get to go away? Forgiveness of your sins is available if you will place your faith in Jesus Christ as your Savior. Ephesians 1:7 says, "In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God's grace." Jesus paid our debt for us, so we could be forgiven. All you have to do is ask God to forgive you through Jesus, believing that Jesus died to pay for your forgiveness – and He will forgive you! John 3:16-17 contains this wonderful message, "For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through Him."

Forgiveness – is it really that easy?

Yes it is that easy! You can’t earn forgiveness from God. You can’t pay for your forgiveness from God. You can only receive it, by faith, through the grace and mercy of God. If you want to accept Jesus Christ as your Savior and receive forgiveness from God, here is a prayer you can pray. Saying this prayer or any other prayer will not save you. It is only trusting in Jesus Christ that can provide forgiveness of sins. This prayer is simply a way to express to God your faith in Him and to thank Him for providing for your forgiveness. "God, I know that I have sinned against You and am deserving of punishment. But Jesus Christ took the punishment that I deserve so that through faith in Him I could be forgiven. القانون الروحي الثاني هو: البشرية قد تلوثت بالخطية ولهذا أنفصلت عن الله. نتيجة لذلك لم يعد بإمكاننا معرفة خطة الله العجيبة لحياتنا. تؤكد رسالة رومية 23:3 هذه المعلومات "إِذِ الْجَمِيعُ أَخْطَأُوا وَأَعْوَزَهُمْ مَجْدُ اللهِ". وتوضح رسالة رومية 6: 23 عواقب الخطية "لأَنَّ أُجْرَةَ الْخَطِيَّةِ هِيَ مَوْتٌ". لقد خلقنا الله لتكون لنا شركة معه ولكن البشرية أدخلت الخطية الى العالم ولهذا أنفصلنا عن الله. لقد أفسدنا علاقتنا بالله. فما هو الحل؟

القانون الروحي الثالث هو: يسوع المسيح هو وسيلة الله الوحيدة لغفران خطايانا. فيمكننا الحصول على الغفران وإصلاح علاقتنا بالله من خلال الرب يسوع. تقول رسالة رومية 8:5 "وَلَكِنَّ اللهَ بَيَّنَ مَحَبَّتَهُ لَنَا لأَنَّهُ وَنَحْنُ بَعْدُ خُطَاةٌ مَاتَ الْمَسِيحُ لأَجْلِنَا". وتوضح رسالة كورنثوس الاولى 3:15-4 كل ما يجب أن نعرفه ونؤمن به لكي نخلص "أَنَّ الْمَسِيحَ مَاتَ مِنْ أَجْلِ خَطَايَانَا حَسَبَ الْكُتُبِ وَأَنَّهُ دُفِنَ وَأَنَّهُ قَامَ فِي الْيَوْمِ الثَّالِثِ حَسَبَ الْكُتُبِ". ويعلن الرب يسوع بنفسه أنه هو الطريق الوحيد للخلاص، فيقول في يوحنا 6:14 "أَنَا هُوَ الطَّرِيقُ وَالْحَقُّ وَالْحَيَاةُ. لَيْسَ أَحَدٌ يَأْتِي إِلَى الآبِ إِلاَّ بِي". فكيف أحصل على عطية الخلاص الرائعة؟

القانون الروحي الرابع هو: يجب أن نضع ثقتنا فى المسيح يسوع كمخلص لكي ننال الغفران ونعرف خطة الله الرائعة لحياتنا. يوضح إنجيل يوحنا 12:1 هذا الأمر "وَأَمَّا كُلُّ الَّذِينَ قَبِلُوهُ فَأَعْطَاهُمْ سُلْطَاناً أَنْ يَصِيرُوا أَوْلاَدَ اللَّهِ أَيِ الْمُؤْمِنُونَ بِاسْمِهِ". كما يعلنه سفر أعمال الرسل 31:16 بكل وضوح "آمِنْ بِالرَّبِّ يَسُوعَ الْمَسِيحِ فَتَخْلُصَ أَنْتَ وَأَهْلُ بَيْتِكَ". فيمكن أن نخلص بالنعمة فقط، بالايمان بيسوع المسيح (أفسس 8:2-9).

أذا أردت أن تضع ثقتك فى يسوع المسيح وتقبله كمخلصك الشخصي، يمكنك أن تردد معي الكلمات الآتية لله. تذكر أن خلاصك لن يتم بتلاوة هذه الصلاة أو أي صلاة أخرى ولكن بالثقة في مقدرة المسيح أن يخلصك من خطاياك. هذه الصلاة هي ببساطة، تعبير لله عن ثقتك به وشكرك له لمنحك الخلاص. القانون الروحي الثاني هو: البشرية قد تلوثت بالخطية ولهذا أنفصلت عن الله. نتيجة لذلك لم يعد بإمكاننا معرفة خطة الله العجيبة لحياتنا. تؤكد رسالة رومية 23:3 هذه المعلومات "إِذِ الْجَمِيعُ أَخْطَأُوا وَأَعْوَزَهُمْ مَجْدُ اللهِ". وتوضح رسالة رومية 6: 23 عواقب الخطية "لأَنَّ أُجْرَةَ الْخَطِيَّةِ هِيَ مَوْتٌ". لقد خلقنا الله لتكون لنا شركة معه ولكن البشرية أدخلت الخطية الى العالم ولهذا أنفصلنا عن الله. لقد أفسدنا علاقتنا بالله. فما هو الحل؟

القانون الروحي الثالث هو: يسوع المسيح هو وسيلة الله الوحيدة لغفران خطايانا. فيمكننا الحصول على الغفران وإصلاح علاقتنا بالله من خلال الرب يسوع. تقول رسالة رومية 8:5 "وَلَكِنَّ اللهَ بَيَّنَ مَحَبَّتَهُ لَنَا لأَنَّهُ وَنَحْنُ بَعْدُ خُطَاةٌ مَاتَ الْمَسِيحُ لأَجْلِنَا". وتوضح رسالة كورنثوس الاولى 3:15-4 كل ما يجب أن نعرفه ونؤمن به لكي نخلص "أَنَّ الْمَسِيحَ مَاتَ مِنْ أَجْلِ خَطَايَانَا حَسَبَ الْكُتُبِ وَأَنَّهُ دُفِنَ وَأَنَّهُ قَامَ فِي الْيَوْمِ الثَّالِثِ حَسَبَ الْكُتُبِ". ويعلن الرب يسوع بنفسه أنه هو الطريق الوحيد للخلاص، فيقول في يوحنا 6:14 "أَنَا هُوَ الطَّرِيقُ وَالْحَقُّ وَالْحَيَاةُ. لَيْسَ أَحَدٌ يَأْتِي إِلَى الآبِ إِلاَّ بِي". فكيف أحصل على عطية الخلاص الرائعة؟

القانون الروحي الرابع هو: يجب أن نضع ثقتنا فى المسيح يسوع كمخلص لكي ننال الغفران ونعرف خطة الله الرائعة لحياتنا. يوضح إنجيل يوحنا 12:1 هذا الأمر "وَأَمَّا كُلُّ الَّذِينَ قَبِلُوهُ فَأَعْطَاهُمْ سُلْطَاناً أَنْ يَصِيرُوا أَوْلاَدَ اللَّهِ أَيِ الْمُؤْمِنُونَ بِاسْمِهِ". كما يعلنه سفر أعمال الرسل 31:16 بكل وضوح "آمِنْ بِالرَّبِّ يَسُوعَ الْمَسِيحِ فَتَخْلُصَ أَنْتَ وَأَهْلُ بَيْتِكَ". فيمكن أن نخلص بالنعمة فقط، بالايمان بيسوع المسيح (أفسس 8:2-9).

أذا أردت أن تضع ثقتك فى يسوع المسيح وتقبله كمخلصك الشخصي، يمكنك أن تردد معي الكلمات الآتية لله. تذكر أن خلاصك لن يتم بتلاوة هذه الصلاة أو أي صلاة أخرى ولكن بالثقة في مقدرة المسيح أن يخلصك من خطاياك. هذه الصلاة هي ببساطة، تعبير لله عن ثقتك به وشكرك له لمنحك الخلاص. "يارب، أعلم أنني أخطأت أمامك وأني أستحق العقاب. ولكني أؤمن أن يسوع المسيح تحمل عني العقاب ومن خلال ايماني به تغفر خطيئتي. أنني ابتعد عن آثامي وأضع ثقتي فيك لخلاصي.

القديس الجديد في الشهداء يوحنا يوانينا

وُلد في تيروفون، يوانينا، في شمالي اليونان لأبوين تقيّين يخافان الله ربّياه على محبّة الله والخدم الكنسية التي كان يشترك فيها بوقار شديد.
امتهن يوحنا الخياطة واعتاد أن يوزّع دخله إلى ثلاثة أقسام: قسم كان يؤدّيه للفقراء، وقسم يخصّصه لذويه وقسم يسدّ به حاجة نفسه.
ما إن توفي والده حتى انتقل إلى القسطنطينية حين كان البطريرك إرميا الأول متوليّاً لها (1522– 1545). هناك فتح محلاً للخياطة وعمل بجدّ.
ولما كان وسيم الطلعة، ذا إطلالة حلوة ورزانة بيّنة وشجاعة كبيرة، حسده المسلمون وأخذوا يغيظونه ويدعونه إلى قبول الإسلام لأنه بذلك سوف يزيد مكسبه زيادة كبيرة. لم يعر يوحنا أولئك المسلمين أي اهتمام لأن تعلّقه بمسيحه كان شديداً.
استمرّ المسلمون في إزعاج يوحنا ودعوته لقبول الإسلام. وكلّما ألحّوا عليه ازداد تعلّقاً بربّه حتى بات يشتهي بذل نفسه شهيداً. هذه الرغبة أخذت تعتمل فيه فقرّر أن يستشير أباه الروحي كالوثيتوس الذي كان الكاهن الأول في البطريركية المسكونية إذا كان يسمح له بذلك ويعطيه البركة.
لما كشف يوحنا لأبيه الروحي ما في نفسه، علم بأن القوانين الكنسية لا تسمح للمسيحيّين أن يلتمسوا الشهادة من ذاتهم. هذا أحزن يوحنا وردّه إلى حين، دون أن يطفئ في قلبه، الرغبة في الشهادة للمسيح.
فلما حلّ موسم الصوم الكبير، عاد المسلمون إلى مضايقة يوحنا ساخرين منه حيناً، يهدّدونه طوراً وطوراً يمطرونه مدائح وهم يحثّونه على هجر مسيحيّته واقتبال الإسلام. كل هذا دفع يوحنا إلى أخذ القرار الأخير بتقديم نفسه شهيداً للمسيح. فخرج، من جديد، إلى أبيه الروحي وأطلعه على عزمه اقتبال الشهادة الطوعية. قال له وهو على ركبتيه أنه قرّر أن يستشهد للمسيح وأنّ لا شيء يمكن أن يمنعه من ذلك. على هذا سأله البركة والمناولة المقدّسة. إذا كنت مستعداً أن تعطيني البركة فحسناً يكون، وإلا فإني سأذهب وأقدّم نفسي متكلاً على رحمة الله لأني لا أشاء بعد أن استمرّ ألعوبة للعدو الذي يزعجني كل يوم.
حذّره أبوه الروحي من خطورة ما هو مزمع على الإقدام عليه لأن الروح نشيط أما الجسد فضعيف. ثم أعلمه بالحاجة إلى الصوم والصلاة قبل الإقدام على فعل من هذا النوع حتى يتنقّى الذهن ويكشف لك الربّ الإله ما عليك أن تفعله. الله يكشف قصده لشهدائه بعلامة من عنده.
وعاد يوحنا، في اليوم التالي الذي صادف يوم الجمعة العظيمة، إلى أبيه الروحي، وهو مفعم بالفرح، قال له إنه رأى في نوم الليل أنه كان يرقص وسط النار نظير الفتية الثلاثة في بابل ويسبّح الله. ثم أصرّ عليه أن يعطيه البركة والمناولة المقدّسة.
فلما رأى أبوه الروحي إصراره صلّى عليه أن يقوّيه الربّ الإله كما قوّى القدّيس ديمتريوس الشهيد نسطر وأن يشدّده بإزاء كل الأعداء المنظورين وغير المنظورين وأن يؤهّله للشهادة له. وبعدما تناول القدسات خرج إلى محلّه بسلام وجلس مفتكراً. وإذ بالمسلمين الذين اعتادوا إزعاجه يقبلون إليه. هذه المرّة أضافوا إلى ما كانوا يردّدونه اتهاماً أنه وعد، وهو في تريكالا، بنكران المسيح والتحوّل إلى الإسلام. جواب يوحنا كان: ألعل هذا الكلام توجهونه إلي؟ فأجابوه بالإيجاب فردّ قائلاً" معاذ الله أن أتخلّى عن مسيحي على هذا النحو، في تريكالا أو في أي مكان آخر. فأنا أعيش ومسيحي وسأبقى كذلك وأنا مستعد أن أموت من أجله. فكيف لي أن أكفر بالمسيح، خالقي وإلهي، وأتبع محمداً؟ ولما تفوّه بهذا الكلام وأضاف إليه ما أغاظ المسلمين واعتبروه تعرّضاً لدينهم ونبيّهم انقضّوا عليه وأشبعوه ضرباً لا هوادة فيه. ثمّ جرروه إلى أمام القاضي الذي استجوبه وسأله عمّا إذا كان قد تعرّض لنبي المسلمين فلم ينكر. إذ ذاك أمر القاضي بضربه على فمه وإلقائه أرضاً وإشباعه لكماً وركلاً. خلال ذلك كان يوحنا يبتهل إلى الربّ الإله أن يقوّيه لكي يتمكن، بنعمة الله، من إتمام الشوط إلى آخره.
إثر ذلك أعطوه مهلة إلى المساء ليتراجع عمّا أبداه ويقتبل الإسلام أو يسلمونه للموت. فلما أحضره القاضي، من جديد، تبيّن له أن يوحنا لازال على موقفه فاغتاظ وأمر بإحراقه حالاً.
وتدخّل البطريرك ودفع مالاً ليُصار إلى تأجيل تنفيذ الإعدام إلى أسبوع التجديدات. وهكذا كان. بقي يوحنا مصرّاً على تمسّكه بإيمانه بالمسيح دون الإسلام فأخذوه وساروا به إلى مكان المحرقة. في الطريق كان يصلّي ويرتّل: المسيح قام من بين الأموات ووطئ الموت بالموت ووهب الحياة للذين في القبور.
فلما أشعلوا النار وأرادوا إلقاءه فيها بالقوّة امتنع قائلاً إنه سوف يلج النار بإرادته بسرور. على هذا النحو أكمل يوحنا يوانينا سعيه.
بعد ذلك جاء مسيحيون ودفعوا مالاًُ وأخذوا رفاته إلى البطريركية حيث أخذ الناس يتدفقون إكراماً لها وتبرّكاً بها عاقدين عليها سهرانة احتفالية. وقد ورد أن عجائب جمّة حدثت برفاته. ثم دفنوه داخل البطريركية. كان استشهاده في 18 نيسان سنة 1526 م.

القديس البار يوحنا الإيصافري

أصل القدّيس يوحنا هذا من إيصافريا. لما اعتمل الشوق في نفسه إلى المسيح، وهو شاب، نبذ العالم وأباطيله والتحق بالقدّيس غريغوريوس المدن العشر. ليس واضحاً أي المدن العشر هي المقصودة في السيرة. بعض الآراء يميل إلى تحديد موقعها ضمن مقاطعة إيصافريا. آخرون يظنّونها إلى الغرب من كيليكيا. فيما يعتبر سواهم أن المقصود هو المدن الواقعة إلى الشرق من بحيرة طبريا. لهذا يُنسب القدّيس غريغوريوس إلى بانياس التي هي إحدى هذه المدن، شرقي طبريا. راجع في كل حال سيرته في 20 تشرين الثاني.
أنّى يكن الأمر فإن يوحنا خدم أباه الروحي خدمة جميلة معتبراً إيّاه صورة حيّة للرب نفسه. وقد استمرّ على هذا المنوال سنين طوالاً فكان بذلك راهباً مثالياً. وقد اشترك في المعارك المجيدة التي خاضها معلّمه دفاعاً عن الإيقونات المقدّسة وإكرامها زمن اضطهاد الإمبراطور لاون الإيصافري لها.
رقد في الرب، مكمّلاً بالفضائل، سنة 820م فووري الثرى بجانب صديقه القدّيس يوسف المرنّم.

لِلبَرِيَّةِ غَيْرِ الـمُثْمِرَةِ بِمَجارِي دُمُوعِكَ أَمْرَعْتَ. وبِالتَّنَهُّداتِ التي مِنَ الأَعْماق أَثْمَرْتَ بِأَتْعابِكَ إِلى مِئَةِ ضِعْفٍ. فَصِرْتَ كَوكَباً لِلمَسْكونَةِ مُتَلأْلِئاً بِالعَجائِب. يا أَبانا البارَّ يوحنا فَتَشَفَّعْ إِلى المَسِيحِ الإِلَهِ أَنْ يُخَلِّصَ نُفُوسَنا.
